From phishing emails to ransomware and data breaches, local governments are increasingly becoming victims of sophisticated and complex cyberattacks. The amount of damage these attacks can cause is growing, too. In this session, we will review the newest service from the Office of the Washington State Auditor (SAO): a cyber checkup program for local governments, offered at no charge by SAO’s Center for Government Innovation. You’ll also get an overview of other government tools and resources available from the Center at no charge.
Educational Objectives:
During the session, participants will learn about the process for completing a cyber checkup, how it can help improve their cybersecurity program, lessons learned from the program results to date, and how to access all the services the Center offers at no additional charge for local governments.

Presenters:
Dan Mann, Cybersecurity Specialist, SAO. Daniel Mann is a cybersecurity specialist at the Office of the Washington State Auditor (SAO). As part of SAO’s Center for Government Innovation, he provides resources, training and technical assistance to local governments to help them improve their cybersecurity posture.
Niles Kostick, Manager, SAO. Niles Kostick is the Manager for the Center for Government Innovation, a service of the Office of the Washington State Auditor (SAO). Niles discovered a passion for helping Washington local governments when he interned at SAO in 2014. Since then, he has worked in multiple roles throughout the Office, including as an auditor, subject matter expert, and technical researcher. He now manages a team of experts who help local governments solve problems and improve operations.
