As I prepare to step into retirement in May after almost 23 years at Enduris, the last 7 years as Executive Director, I find myself filled with gratitude and reflection. Serving the special-purpose districts of Washington State through Enduris has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life.
When I began this journey, I could not have imagined the growth, challenges, and opportunities that would unfold over the years. What I did know—and what has remained constant—is that this work matters. Supporting public entities so they can focus on serving their communities safely and effectively has always been at the heart of our mission. Any success we have achieved has been the result of dedicated staff, engaged members, thoughtful board leadership, and a shared commitment to doing what is right for the long term.
I am especially grateful for the opportunity to serve beyond our pool through participation on two national boards representing risk pools across the country. Those experiences reinforced for me the importance of education, collaboration, and sound governance in ensuring the longevity of public risk pooling. I learned as much as I gave, and I am thankful to have worked alongside so many passionate professionals who care deeply about the future of our industry and the people we serve.
I am very mindful that whatever accomplishments are attributed to my tenure were never mine alone. They belong to the team that showed up every day with professionalism and purpose, to the members who trusted us, and to the colleagues across the state and nation who shared their knowledge so freely. I am proud of what we have built together and confident in the strong foundation that will carry Enduris forward.
As I turn the page to retirement, I am looking forward to life’s simple joys. I plan to travel to fun places without time constraints, to spend meaningful time with my amazing husband, children, and grandchildren—teaching the little ones how to swim and how to enjoy life—and to give back by volunteering wherever God places me.
Thank you for the trust, the partnership, and the many memories over the past 23 years. It has truly been an adventure.
With gratitude, deep appreciation, and best wishes for the future,
Sheryl Brandt, Executive Director
